the same technique used to paint the backside of the castle units to be the forest.
A multi-step process, our stones began with a spray using a repetitive stencil, which allowed us to fill in and alter rather than over thinking our work as we used a tinted Sto(concrete) to create our textured stones. On top of the Sto, we used four color washes to create a variation in the stones themselves that responded beautifully to light. These were finally toned with sprays.
The stone facing of the stage was created with styrofoam, carved to look like stone, and coated with a mixutre of 1-2-3, followed by what our scenic charge calls 'goop', which is a joint compound mixture. This toughed and smoothed the styrofoam to withstand the outdoor weather, and take the paint evenly.
